Jubilee Glow - Sunday, June 2 - 22.00hrs - precisely!

The idea was for several balloons in the area to link up with a national effort of balloon pilots and crew. In the end, the weather was dire - so we will have to wait for reports to see who actually made it in the end.....

Tum Hill - Nelson

Fort Vale Balloon

'Twas a mucky old night - viz naff. One could hardly see the sheep sh_t stuck to one's wellies.
Atop Tum Hill, overlooking Nelson and Colne in a damp, grey Lancashire, an intrepid party of Royalists had gathered in the gloom with spirits a lot brighter than the weather.
Big Ben had struck, we'd done our bit, when four menacing figures, line abreast, appeared across the field, striding towards us in purposeful manner.
"Light up again, quick," someone cried and the cow burner lit the scene once more. The four figures suddenly had bright stripes of fluorescent trim across their chests, at the end of their sleeves and on their trousers. Striking yellow helmets revealed their identity in an instant.
They were very nice about it. "It looks very bright in town,'" said one as he inspected the kit in the basket and warmed his hands with the heat from the flame. "Perhaps you could let us know next time," said a lady Fire Officer.
So we'd made our mark, we concluded, and could open the Champers.
