Chairman's Chatter
Updated 7th November 2011

What a finish to the season !

Our 30th (or 31st, depending on your opinion of the clubs first meeting), AGM turned out to be one of the best Autum days ever, apart from some early mist we achieved four or five flights before midday, then we had a slightly delayed buffet lunch followed by a quick fire AGM and then several more flights before sunset.

The AGM saw the retirement of our enthusiastic treasurer Sarah, who is having a break from the committee, Ray Owen bravely taking on the role, we also needed a Compass Points Editor to take on the mantle of Jo Sansby who retired from the position earlier in the year, once again we had a willing volunteer in Tom who is adding Compass Points to his brief as Public Relations Officer.

The club accounts showed an excess of expenditure over income, mainly due to the 30th birthday celebrations and improved toilet facilities at the Coniston meet but as reserves are healthy this loss was considered marginal under the circumstances.

We have managed to locate some of our club trophies and I was please to present John Russon with the Mini Hop Trophy for his daring but extremely "Mini" hop at Kirkby Lonsdale, I awarded the Middsummer Maddness Trophy to Ray Owen who was P2 with me and Put Stephen O'Boyle in G-RIMB in the competition in June and by a close popular vote by those members present, Sarah Owen was awarded the Leyland Festival Cup for her contribution to the running of the club.

We still have our regular evening meetings on the third Tuesday in the month in the tap room of the Travellers Rest at Shaw Green on the A581, (Map Ref SD 530187) which is about 1 mile east of our old venue at Croston. If you have time, drop in for a chat, or if it is flyable, (in summer !) get there as soon as you can, we have a launch field just behind the pub although the entrance is round the corner.

We have changed our other meeting to the first Sunday morning in the month, keep an eye on the web site for details of where and when, as we are trying to move the meetings round the area.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.
